Hyundai Motor India Expands EV Charging Network With Jio-bp Partnership

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has entered into a new partnership with Jio-bp to improve access to electric-vehicle charging infrastructure across India.

Under the collaboration, EV users will be able to find and use Jio-bp charging stations directly through the myHyundai app. The charging platform is available to electric-vehicle users irrespective of the vehicle brand they drive, giving the partnership a wider reach beyond Hyundai customers.

The integration adds around 7,000 Jio-bp charging locations to the platform. With the latest addition, myHyundai provides access to more than 37,000 EV charging points across India, giving drivers a larger network for planning charging stops.

Jio-bp Brings Fast Charging Along Key Routes

Jio-bp operates EV charging infrastructure through its network of mobility and fuel stations in India. A significant part of its charging network is positioned along major national highways, where fast and reliable charging can be particularly important for long-distance EV travel.

The company's charging infrastructure includes DC fast chargers ranging from 60kW to 480kW. Jio-bp says its charging network currently achieves around 96% uptime, an important factor for EV drivers who depend on public chargers during highway journeys.

For EV owners, the partnership could make it easier to locate compatible charging points, check available infrastructure and access charging services through a familiar digital platform.

Hyundai Also Expanding Its Own Fast-Charging Infrastructure

Hyundai Motor India is also developing its own public charging infrastructure. The company currently has 183 DC fast-charging stations operational in India and has announced plans to increase that number to 600 stations by 2030.

As part of the new arrangement, Hyundai's operational charging network will also be integrated with the Jio-bp pulse application. This creates greater interoperability between the two charging ecosystems and can potentially give EV users more ways to discover charging locations.

Charging Infrastructure Becomes a Bigger EV Priority

India's electric-vehicle market is expanding, and the availability of dependable public charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important for EV adoption.

While concerns about driving range have traditionally been one of the major barriers to EV adoption, charging availability and charger reliability are becoming equally important considerations. A charger being listed on a map is of limited value to drivers if it is unavailable or not working when they arrive.

The Hyundai-Jio-bp collaboration therefore focuses not only on increasing the number of charging points available to drivers, but also on making those chargers easier to discover and access through digital platforms.
